Affirmation Station by Kayla Bobb
Affirmation Station
As Black women, we often forget to take time for ourselves because we are wrapped up in being the “strong” ones. While confidence and leadership is in your DNA, it is essential to remember to love oneself.
Affirmations can range from telling yourself “I am strong” when in the middle of an intense workout to spending a few minutes in the mirror staring at yourself and appreciating everything that you see. Now, the latter may seem difficult for some because we live in a society that makes it easier to hate what we see than love it, but engaging with this bit by bit can make real positive, mental change.
An exercise for daily affirmation is to write down affirmations on pieces of scrap paper and put them in a jar to then read to start your day, or whenever you need it. Decorate your jar with colors that you associate with the happiest version of yourself, with stickers you may have lying around, or whatever else your heart desires in order to make this affirmation jar you.
To give you a head start, we will provide you with 20 affirmations, with some from the book Pussy Prayers: Sacred and Sensual Rituals for Wild Women of Color. You are welcome to print and cut these out to feed your new daily affirmation jar!
